English as an Additional Language

For some children in Ballymena Primary School, English is not their first or home language. we cater for all learners in our school and our EAL children enjoy specific lessons especially catered for their language needs. Mrs Taggart and Mrs Muscalu take children out in groups or individually to help them learn and develop their English Literacy skills so that they can access our full curriculum in a meaningful way. We ensure training is up-to-date and methods relevant to help children increase their communication skills.

At Ballymena Primary School we have a dedicated team of staff who ensure the development of the English language for children whose first language is not English.  Children are taken out and given support on a 1-1 or small group basis where they engage in practical activities, games and lessons to promote the learning of the English language.  In class, pupils are engaged in work alongside their peers and are introduced to the Curriculum through class teaching.
